School Evaluation Services
SMI's Whole School Evaluation Program is intended to help schools develop the habits of collaboration, discussion, inquiry and decision making that is necessary for ongoing improvement through a permanent cycle of inquiry and action. The intent of our approach is to build the trust and ownership that we have learned over the years which are the bedrock for school improvement and to provide practical information and tools to help the school identify and carry out the tasks that support continuous improvement.
The Whole School Evaluation Program is divided into four sequential stages as follows:
Stage One - ON - THE-SPOT ASSESSMENT OF THE SCHOOL
The On-the-spot Assessment of the school will provide an avenue to measure the school based on predetermined world-class measurement tools of schools followed by a report of the critical strategies that could be adopted to improve the standard of the school.
Stage Two - COMPREHENSIVE STAFF AUDIT
The nature of academic work and the environment for teaching and learning in schools has undergone a transformation in the last few decades. It is therefore highly critical to follow this trend by looking into pivotal issues of what constitutes quality teaching, how quality is measured and the importance of measuring teaching quality and competence.
Conducting a proper teaching skill and competency audit for staff is rewarding. It is important however, that schools conduct these at least yearly.
Assessment of the Teaching Staff - This will be based on the following:
DIRECT: evidence produced by the employee through the staff assessment form that will be issued before commencement of audit.
INDIRECT: evidence produced about the employee through the staff files
CLASSROOM OBSERVATION: Staff are observed while teaching in class.
ORAL INTERVIEW: to evaluate staff knowledge of educational terms and current trends in education.
Stage Three - STRATEGIC PLAN DEVELOPMENT
Strategic Planning is not as much about the development but a review of the eight basic strategies that are the underpinning of any organization. These eight strategies (which are internal factors totally under the control of the School Head and the Board) are reviewed to ensure they align with the expectations of the School Board and the likely evolution of factors in the competitive environment.
Stage Four - HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT
The Whole School Evaluation Programme ends with a report of the gaps in Knowledge, Skill and Attitude (KSA) within the school human resources and how this can be bridged. This is essential because of the strategic role that people play in the success of the 21st century organization as the strategic execution of developmental plans rest on the people.
