Synopsis

Difficult and uncertain time demands different approach. Strategy refers to the direction and scope of an organization over the long term, which achieves advantage in a changing environment through its configuration of resources and competences with the aim of fulfilling stakeholder expectations.

All organizations at one point or the other are faced with the challenges of strategic development and growth some from a desire to grasp new opportunities others to overcome significant problems. However, school managements like every other organization need to be concerned with the long-term direction and growth of their schools. The school environment is becoming more complex within an uncertain framework and several societal influences and pressures and as such the activities of the school should be viewed on a continuum and addressed as having an effect on the future of the school.

The challenge of running an educational institution with a strategic fit, rest on the school management team and as such they need to understand the nitty-gritty of strategy and its effect on the operational efficiency of the school and how strategy can be translated into action by the entire organization to achieve growth. School leaders can no longer wait for the environment to freely dictate the direction of their organizations but they need to make sense of an uncertain world around their schools. It is high time school leaders master the main art of strategy, changes in the school ecosystem and how to navigate in an ever-changing environment.
